Pakistan Flood Scam Preys on Donators

A record flood recently devastated Pakistan and put millions of its residents in distress. This highly destructive flood has left desperate Pakistanis without basic essentials like water, food and shelter. Many generous Americans have been donating to charities in effort to help the victims, but scam artists are taking advantage of their kindness. Scammers are setting up phony charities and ripping off those who think they are donating to help the flood victims. The scam can take the form of phony websites and emails that falsely use the name of genuine charities. There are also fake charities that are completely made-up by the scammers themselves.

The FTC warns consumers to be cautious of charities that give few details about how disaster victims will actually benefit. The FTC is giving advice on how to avoid donating to a fraudulent charity and becoming a victim of a Pakistan flood charity scam – read some helpful tips at the FTC Website.
