Facebook and Twitter users are being targeted with fake "Free iPad" offers in a new Internet scam. Scammers are hijacking users’ accounts and spamming their friends with phony free iPad messages. The messages continue to send even after account passwords are changed. Instead of a free iPad, the messages contain a link to better-gifts.net.
Once at the website, the user is asked for personal information and then directed to a variety of promotional offers from legitimate companies. Netflix, The Doubleday Book Club and Columbia House DVD are a few on the list. In addition to getting personal information, scammers make money from the click-through traffic of these sites.
