Casey Anthony Facebook Scam is Quickly Spreading

Citizens are up in arms over Casey Anthony, the woman accused but then acquitted last week of killing her 2-year-old daughter. Facebook has been a popular outlet for people to express their anger and emotions over the verdict with status updates. Scam artists have taken note that this is a popular topic among users and have created an intriguing post on Facebook that promises a video of a Casey Anthony confession. This post is actually a scam and clicking on it will download malware onto users’ computers instead of showing a confession.

The Facebook teaser reads "BREAKING NEWS – Leaked Video of Casey Anthony CONFESSING to Lawyer!" After clicking on the link, the user is taken to an "age verification" box that reads: "Are you older than 13 years of age? Click "Jaa" button to confirm and play video."

The word "Jaa" is actually a codename for "Share," and one click of the button means users are granting permission for the malware to be shared on their Facebook network and exposing the scam to their friends. Read more about this Casey Anthony Facebook scam at Sophos Naked Security.
