Have you ever looked at a Facebook phishing scam update and thought to yourself…what’s the point in even writing about this? This is just for stupid people who don’t know any better.
The Ponemon Institute and PC Tools conducted a survey, proving that people who are aware of scams are still susceptible to them. In it, 47% of respondents said that a survey with a prize at the end is a scam or an attempt to sell something. However, when presented with specific scenarios, 55% of respondents were willing to give out their personal information for prize surveys.
The moral of this story is that often times we make decisions based on emotions and don’t always think things through, even when we know that something is fishy. If we are susceptible to being duped by prize surveys, just imagine how susceptible we are in desperate situations. To avoid being scammed, be your own devil’s advocate.
